Civil War Diary Quilt

Oh my, another project to add to my list. After seeing everyones lovely blocks I just had to join in, so I went ahead and ordered the Civil War Diaries book from Amazon.com. I am so anxious to get started, I think I will go ahead and do some of the easier blocks while waiting for the book to arrive.

Hi Melanie!
I found you from the Civil War Diary Yahoo group! I looked back over your blog and I must say that I love your style of quilting.

I am just getting ready to start the Civil War quilt. I just got my book yesterday and mom and I will be shopping next week for the fabrics. I don't have any Civil War fabrics in my stash.

I picked up this book at Barnes and Noble and found that Mary Austin Adelia Wallace's farm was just down the road 8 miles from my farm. How strange (and exciting)it was to read about my local stomping grounds during the Civil War era. And strange enough, this is the 3rd time I have read about houses being built in the area with money from the Gold Rush. One other was the home I grew up in 25 miles away. I understand 3 groups (or wagon trains) left the area for California, in search of gold. I wonder if they all knew eachother? Anyway, I have found Mary on the census and so I am going to try to find the house which is pictured in the book. Sure looks familiar!
